Staged Photography

University of Tennessee 102 Foundations Studio Project

Goal:

Create a staged photograph that communicates the items needed to begin a new hobby or activity to an identified audience.

Project Requirements:

CMYK, 300 dpi, 20” x 15” document; Minimum of 8, maximum of 15 objects

Continuing your exploration of how imagery can convey information, you will now stage a photograph that identifies the objects needed to start a new hobby or activity. The activity must be analog (capable of being executed using your hands) and not digital. You will need to think about who the audience is for this activity, the context (where you do it) so that you can create a composition that speaks with specificity.

Objectives:

  • Identify an audience to target.

  • Select 8-15 objects for an activity or hobby that are related visually in tone.

  • Apply a tone-of-voice appropriate to your chosen audience in the context, color choices, and composition of the photograph.

  • Apply lighting that supports the targeted audience of the photo.

  • Apply post-editing to support the overall message of the photograph.

  • Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism through care in craftsmanship, timeliness, participation, effort, ability to give and receive feedback, take risks, and listen.

  • Process: Visually demonstrate the series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end result.
