A literary, artistic, musical, or architectural work that imitates the style of previous work.

Design a poster using a pastiche of a historical design movement: 1890 Art Nouveau

  • Next, choose a current political issue related to our upcoming election to encourage to get people to get out and vote – using the assigned historical design style.

  • Finished designs should be inspired by the social, cultural or political ideologies of the historical design movement

    OBJECTIVE

Design a poster that is a pastiche of a historical design movement. Next, using the design movement that you were given, you’ll create a “Get out the Vote” poster pushing people to register to vote for this upcoming presidential election. Finished designs should be inspired by the social, cultural or political ideologies of the historical design movement and its style!

You can take a political stance on WHY you want people to get out and vote – for instance, this might be something politically charged. Think about it – what will make people get out and vote? Explore other advocacy designs to find influences and direction on how to approach your own successful voting advocacy campaign. All images used must be your own. You may use stock photos from unsplash or pexels for photomontages, but that image cannot be the primary part of your design. If you do use other images, proper citing must happen. This can happen like a byline caption within the poster will be placed in 7-8 pt type within the poster, referencing the images used - OR - you can cite it when you upload your original PDF on Canvas. You need to include the name of the artist/architect/designer, the work title, date it was created, repository/location (if applicable),

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

01/ Enhance understanding of ideologies that underpin historical design

    movements

02/ Create functional communication combining conceptual interpretation and

practical application by encouraging people to take action (get out and vote)

03/ Define a political topic or idea that correlates modern social ideology with

the historical design movement in getting people to vote.

    PROCESS

01/ Begin by researching your chosen design movement. What principles do they employ?

How are text and images treated? Do they utilize certain colors?

02/ Next, think about how you want to encourage people to get out and vote for our next US presidental election. You will need to research and develop a viewpoint to persuade people into action. Some form of an information graphic may be used, and is actually encouraged, to help support the chosen cause in the design. Make sure the call to action text has at least a website or a location where people can learn more information. SO - you need a headline, a small paragraph of information/ call to action, and a website or location to learn more information.
